MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION AND RENEWALS
A MESSAGE FROM THE PRESIDENT
The process of updating the Institute’s Articles of Association, initiated in the Newsletter last May, was completed in December 2009. The amended Articles are posted in full on the Institute website at www.ballaratmi.com Printed copies are available at the library desk.
The Institute remains, as it has always been, a not for profit, limited liability company with two categories of membership open to anyone applying to join or renewing membership. The amended Paragraphs 6, 7 and 8 of the Articles now state unambiguously the rights and responsibilities of full Members of the Institute and of Library subscriber members.
What is the difference?
Both categories of membership have full library rights. Full membership entitles the Member to participate more fully in the life of the Institute, to nominate for election to the Board and to vote in such elections and on any matters at General Meetings.
What is the fee difference?
Only $5.00
Be a full member of a grand community Institute
Probably, most members in recent years have joined primarily to enjoy the library. You can still do so, but I urge renewing members and new applicants to become full members.
Only a few years ago, the future looked bleak for the library. The Institute building was in a sorry state, inside and out. Now, we shall very soon be enjoying a beautiful, refurbished setting for our library, heritage display and research activities.
This has been the product of much public and philanthropic money and much time freely given by many people over recent years.
It is time to show that we have a large body of Ballarat people worthy and appreciative of this investment of resources.
Be proud to be a full member of the Ballaarat Mechanics’ Institute.
You can help make it grow, be more diverse, be sustainable, be more widely known and revered.
Frank Hurley
President
