Call to Authors

Do you like reading and writing?
We realise that we have barely scratched the surface of the wealth of material about old and new Ballarat which could be explored in this fashion. We plan to make Ballarat Punch at the Mechanics an annual affair and invite readers and writers to select articles from the original Ballarat Punch, available on CDrom at the library, and match them with comments from the twenty first century for future editions.   For further details  email jillblee@ncable.net.au

Or contact the Ballaarat Mechanics' Institute for further editorial details and subscriptions, or send your article directly to the address above.

Limited copies of edition eight are available from the library. This is a great edition, with a host of eminent writers and illustrators. The cover design is by local artist William Gribble.

DEMOCRACY: ANCIENT AND MODERN, is the first of an occasional series of publications to be published by the Ballaarat Mechanics' Institute.
This is the text of a talk given by Professor Thomas Mitchell, past Provost of Trinity College Dublin, delivered at an Institute Twilight Talk in 2002.

There is a depth of knowledge and understanding of the process of democracy in the ancient world and its comparison with the modern use of the term.

This publication is available from the institute library for A$6.00 by either email or phone   (61) 0353 313042 or over the counter.
